The Henry E. Rufty – Haden C. Holmes Senior Center was the result of a community-wide campaign to raise funds to construct the Center in 1987.
Over 2,000 local citizens donated monies for its construction and furnishings, including two large gifts from Archie & Frances Rufty and the James F. Hurley family.
The Center is named after Archie Rufty’s father, Henry E. Rufty; and Jim, Gordon and Haden Hurley’s maternal grandfather, Haden C. Holmes.
Both men served the Salisbury-Rowan community in local government during their lives.
Mr. Rufty was a former Rowan County Manager, and Mr. Holmes a former City Manager for Salisbury.
